In this video
Look at this mess! It's just like the fuzzy static you see on an old TV. There's no picture, no shapes, just random dots. [pause:400] Believe it or not, this is where the AI's painting begins.
Now watch this — the AI takes a tiny peek and removes a little bit of the fuzz. Then it does it again. And again. See how shapes start sneaking out of the static? A mountain is showing up, like magic.
Your turn! Drag the slider back and forth and watch the picture appear or disappear. Slide it left and you're back to pure static. Slide it right and the painting comes alive. Try it!
Right now, watch one single step super close. The AI is basically asking, hmm, what would this look like with just a tiny bit less fuzz? It doesn't try to finish the whole painting at once. Tiny guess, tiny guess, tiny guess.
The same exact static can become totally different pictures! You just tell the AI what you want. Pick a mountain, an ocean, or a forest, and watch the fuzz turn into your choice.
So how does the AI know what a mountain even looks like? It studied millions of real photos — way more than any human could see in a lifetime. That's how it learned the difference between fuzz and a real picture.
And that's it — that's diffusion! Start with a screen full of fuzz, then carefully clean it up bit by bit. Next time you see an AI image, you'll know — it really did start as a pile of static.
