Look around your room for a second. Walls, bed, lamp, you. From one wall to the other is maybe three meters. That probably feels pretty big, right? Hold that feeling. That's our STARTING point. Because we're about to zoom out — and we won't stop until we hit the edge of everything.
Now pull the camera back. Past your house. Past your neighborhood — that's already a thousand of your rooms lined up. Keep going — your city, your country, your whole continent. And finally, the whole planet — Earth, twelve thousand seven hundred kilometers across. That's about a billion bedrooms. And on this scale, your room? Doesn't even register.
Don't stop. Earth and Moon are about thirty Earths apart — and the Moon is the FARTHEST thing humans have ever stood on. Keep pulling. Earth to Sun is one hundred fifty MILLION kilometers — light itself takes eight minutes to cross that gap. Now zoom out to the whole solar system. All the planets. Out past Pluto. Twelve billion kilometers across. We're not even close to done.
Past Pluto, there's nothing but empty space for a really long time. The nearest star, Proxima Centauri, is four point two light-YEARS away. That's two hundred and seventy THOUSAND times farther than the Sun. Zoom out more. Thousands of nearby stars come into view, each one a sun like ours. Pull back all the way and you can see the whole Milky Way — a hundred thousand light-years across, a hundred billion suns. And our sun? It's one tiny dot. Out in a spiral arm.

So that sphere is the OBSERVABLE universe. Ninety-three BILLION light-years across, centered on you. Wait — but the universe is only thirteen point eight billion years old. How can it be bigger than light could possibly travel? Because while the light was traveling, space itself stretched out. The universe expanded. So everything we see is now much farther than where it started. And beyond the edge? We have no idea. There might be infinitely more universe out there — we just can't see it. The light hasn't gotten to us yet. Maybe it never will.
